Local peanut butter gets national recognition
Published: Saturday, October 13th, 2007
A peanut butter made in Portales is ranked No. 1 by a national home improvement magazine.
Sunland’s natural creamy variety of its Valencia peanut butter is rated No. 1 among six peanut butters featured in Better Homes and Gardens Fall Decorating issue out this month, according to Sunland officials.
“That’s really exciting to get that distinction,” Sunland CEO and President Jimmie Shearer said. “Valencia peanuts represent less than 1 percent of the market and that kind of exposure will help our marketing tremendously.”
The graphic that represents the ranking touts Sunland’s Valencia peanut butter as being slightly sweeter than Virginian peanuts.
The other five peanut butters, in the order they were ranked, are: MaraNatha Organic, Reduced Fat Jif, Peanut Butter & Co. Crunch Time, Cream-Nut Natural and Peanut Shop of Williamsburg.
