Sophomore forward Cesareo Contreras scored three goals as the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team blanked College of the Southwest 6-0 Sunday at the ENMU pitch. The goals raised Contreras’ total for the season to seven, and marked the first hat trick in the four-year history of the ENMU program. The Greyhounds (6-7) picked up their second win in four all-time matches against the Hobbs-based Mustangs (3-9), who compete at the NAIA level. Freshman midfielder Mychael Contreras — no relation to Cesareo — put the Hounds in front early in the first half with his first goal. Junior forward Patrick Sullivan made it 2-0 with his first goal later in the half. Early in the second half, Cesareo Contreras struck for the first time, taking a through pass from senior forward Andrew Perez and scoring. He headed in a cross pass from senior goal Keith Vargas at the 53:08 mark. Sophomore midfielder Derek Bravo, who assisted on Sullivan’s tally, scored his second goal of the season unassisted with under 14 minutes left. Cesareo Contreras finished the scoring with under 2 1/2 minutes remaining on a header off an opponent’s header. ENMU outshot the Mustangs 27-6. Senior goalkeeper Leif Craddock earned his second shutout of the season. The Hounds return to action for a 4 p.m. (MDT) clash Friday against rival West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
