HEREFORD, Texas — Portales boys finished third and its girls ranked fifth in their first team tennis tournaments of the spring this weekend in Hereford. “This was our second match and our first tournament,” coach Michelle Wallis said. “They improved tremendously this weekend. As far as doubles, they were playing together; as far as fundamentals, their forehands and backhands were much better than in the past.” Wallis said the Rams’ doubles team of Matt Tucker and Logan Brown finished second to a team from Lubbock Trinity. Portales’ Ella Erf finished third in girls’ singles, Wallis said. Portales’ netters travel to Roswell this week, for a team matchup against New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday, followed by the Roswell Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
