Hounds win 29-run shootout with Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas — Tim Crafton’s two-run single highlighted a seven-run eighth and Eastern New Mexico University rallied for a 15-14 victory over Wayland Baptist on Tuesday.
Jeff Roemer (2-0), the fifth of seven ENMU pitchers, picked up the win despite giving up four runs in the seventh which put the Pioneers in front 13-8. Sophomore right-hander Keith Balderaz gave up two hits in the ninth, but retired Chasen DeLeon on a fly ball to left with runners at the corners to nail down his fourth save of the season.
ENMU (8-1) pounded out 18 hits in the contest, with Mike McDuffie and Kelton Hayes both going 3-for-5. The Hounds, who led 8-2 in the fifth inning, got home runs from McDuffie, Justin Gee and Tyler Brown.
Wayland (2-4) collected 19 hits, including four doubles, a triple and five homers. Designated hitter Trey Robertson went 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run, while third baseman Sean Iverson finished 4-for-6 with a double, two homers and five RBIs.
ENMU was charged with eight errors, making six of the Pioneers’ runs unearned.
