Lindsay Schiely pounded out 21 kills Tuesday night to lead Eastern New Mexico University’s volleyball team past Wayland Baptist 30-25, 27-30, 34-32, 30-26 at Greyhound Arena.
The win was the third in the last five matches for the Zias (3-8), and avenged a season-opening loss in four games against the Pioneers (4-12) at Plainview, Texas.
Freshman outside hitter Rhea Wortman contributed 15 kills and 17 digs for the Zias, while junior middle blocker Grace George had 14 kills and six block assists.
Senior outside hitter MaryGrace Moore had 17 kills and 18 digs for the Pioneers, while junior outside hitter Randi Trew had 17 kills, 10 digs and six block assists.
The teams split two tight games to go into the break even. ENMU then rallied from a 25-19 deficit and held off four game points against the Pioneers to take a 2-1 lead in the third game.
The Zias opened a 23-14 lead in the fourth game and fought off a late rally by Wayland.
The match was only the second at home for the Zias this season and begins a four-match homestand. ENMU hosts Tarleton State on Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday to begin Lone Star Conference South Division play before entertaining non-league Lubbock Christian on Tuesday.
