A conductor and performer in contemporary music, David Felberg’s recitals and chamber music presentations have taken him around the country. The associate concertmaster of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra will perform tonight in Clovis at the Town Hall as a part of Clovis Community College’s Cultural Art Series. He will be accompanied pianist Mary Jo Gothmann, who is part of the Santa Fe Opera music staff. Felberg has a local tie to Clovis. His brother, Dr. Jamie Felberg, is an emergency room physician at Plains Regional Medical Center. Music runs deep in the Felberg family, according to CCC director of resource development Stephanie Spencer. “I understand (Jamie) is very musically talented, too.” Felberg’s father, Leonard, also plays violin. “David studied with him,” she said. “(Leonard) is very well known in music circles throughout the world.” The evening’s program, which begins at 7 p.m., includes: ‘Faure’s Sonata in A Major,’ ‘Op. 13,’ ‘The Haunting Red Violin Caprices’ by John Corigliano, and Schubert's ‘Fantasy in C Major.’ “This is the same program David will perform in his New York City debut at Merkin Concert Hall in June,” Spencer said. His musical training includes private studies with Sylvia Rosenberg, John Ferrell and Oswald Lehert, according to information provided by CCC. He has a master’s degree in music from the University of New Mexico, with advanced studies at the University of Colorado, the Chautauqua Institution, and the Aspen Music Festival. He is a co-founder of Chatter, a chamber ensemble, and has recorded with rock musicians Kip Winger and Alejandro Escovedo.
