Check Point
Police officer Ron Haley informed us that there will be a DWI check point in this area between now and the end of the month. Don’t drink and drive, he warned.
Council Meets
The Town Council met in regular session on Monday night. After roll call they voted to pay the bills. Members of the senior citizens met with the council and presented a proposal for remodeling the kitchen area of the center. Bids were opened on the bids for a new backhoe. After discussions the motion was tabled till more information was attained. They also talked about the chain link fence to be put around the town trailer houses. Other things were brought forth before adjourning.
Hot Dogs
There will be a hot dog cook-out at the Baptist Church for the area youth ages 3 through 6th grade from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The cookout is for those who will be going to G.A.S. and B.A.S. and mission friends this year.
Chicken Fry
The annual chicken fry to meet the school faculty will be at the Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Aug. 24. The church will provide the chicken and everyone is to bring a covered dish to finish out the meal. Everyone is encouraged to come and share the evening.
Around Town
Bobby Connell has recently moved a trailer home onto the old Jess Hathcock lots across from the Jasso’s. Bob Evens has recently under gone surgery in Roswell. Burton Smith is in the Hospital in Las Vegas, N.V., and is having some heart problems. Opal Gilmere is still having troubles and goes twice a week for physical therapy. She is staying at Joe and Sharon’s. Connie Dixon recently accompanied some area teens to a convention in Tennessee. Clay Ferguson will be starting his teaching this year at Portales and Doris Wall is in Heartland Continuing Care Center not in Beehive, her daughter stated she is 97 now and is doing fairly well.
Michael Rinne conducted services at the Baptist Church last Sunday as Bro. Herb was in Amherst, Texas, partaking in a Walk to Emmaus.
