ROSWELL — Paige Hartman’s 85 helped Portales post a four-person score of 414 Monday, good for fifth place out of seven teams in small-school girls competition after the first day of the Spring Classic, hosted by Roswell High, Roswell Goddard and New Mexico Military.
Socorro leads the division at 350, three strokes ahead of Hot Springs heading into today’s final 18 holes.
Other scores for the Lady Rams included Kelsey Prince 102, Kaitlin Massey 113, Gabby Espinoza 114 and Alexa Harrington 139. Portales’ No. 2 player, Tyler Rowley, did not make the trip after having an MRI on her ankle on Monday.
In boys competition, which included 18 schools, the Rams ended the first day in 17th place at 384. Goddard had the lead at 298, followed by Hobbs and Lovington at 304.
Dennis Short led the Rams on Monday with an 88, followed by Erik O’Rear at 94, Jackson Powers and Jamal Howard each at 101, and Sawyer May at 110.
