Lady Cats upended by Hobbs

HOBBS — Things didn’t go too well for Clovis High’s volleyball team Tuesday night.
Hobbs rallied from a one-game deficit to hand the Lady Wildcats a 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 loss in the District 4-5A opener for both teams.
CHS coach Darrel Ray said the Lady Wildcats (10-6) had chances to pull even in the fourth game, but couldn’t do it.
““It was a typical Hobbs team,” Ray said. “They scrapped hard and played aggressive, and they served well.
“We just didn’t pass the ball very good. Because of that, we didn’t set very good, and because of that, we didn’t hit very good.”
Junior Lainey Flatow had 16 kills for the Lady Cat. Junior Mariah Sena served for six aces and junior Meagan Baglien had 34 assists.
Hobbs (6-11) took control midway through the second game to pull even in the match, then won a tight third game in which Ray said several close calls went against his team.
“We held the lead almost all the way through (the fourth game),” he said. “We just couldn’t put them away.”
