Texico 40, Hagerman 7
Impact: Texico won its fourth game in a row.
Records: Texico 4-1, Hagerman 1-4.
Difference: The Wolverines used a balanced attack with 188 yards rushing and 117 passing.
Difference-makers: Ryan Morgan scored a pair of touchdowns, one on a 93-yard pass play with quarterback Brett Anderson. Meantime, Texico’s defense had a shutout until the final two seconds of the game.
Something special: Jonathan Sullivan returned a blocked punt 40 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter, building Texico’s lead to 19-0.
Fort Sumner 19, Cloudcroft 0
Impact: The Foxes bounced back from a 19-0 loss last week at Santa Rosa.
Records: Fort Sumner 4-1, Cloudcroft 3-2.
Difference: The Foxes’ defense held Cloudcroft to 13 total yards and a net of zero rushing. The Bears managed only three first downs.
Difference-makers: Anthony Griffin rushed for 60 yards and put Fort Sumner in front with an 18-yard TD run late in the first quarter, capping a 44-yard, 8-play drive. The Foxes then got field goals of 20 and 27 yards from Miguel Guevara in the final five minutes of the half for a 13-0 lead.
Missed chance: Cloudcroft recovered a Foxes fumble at the Fort Sumner 26 on the third play of the game, but after reaching first-and-goal the drive stalled and Fort Sumner’s Barrett Williamson blocked a 26-yard field goal attempt.
Muleshoe 63, River Road 0
Impact: The Mules rebounded from their first loss of the season last week at Idalou, romping in the teams’ District 2-2A opener in Amarillo.
Records: Muleshoe 4-1, River Road 0-5.
Difference: Muleshoe broke open a 6-0 game with five touchdowns in a span of less than seven minutes in the second period.
Difference-makers: Elias Alvarado scored three times for the Mules — two on passes from quarterback Garrett Riley and the other on a 7-yard run. Riley threw three TD passes and ran for another score.
Dominating defense: The Mules held River Road to two first downs and 35 total yards, including minus-12 yards rushing.
Go figure: Nine players caught at least one pass for Muleshoe.
Sundown 39, Farwell 0
Impact: Farwell is still searching for its first win.
Records: Farwell 0-5, Sundown n/a.
Difference: The Roughnecks forced four Farwell turnovers — three interceptions and a fumble.
Difference-makers: Sundown wasted no time taking control as Tommy Serna returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a TD. Ryan Sanford rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown and John Heffley added 90 yards and two TDs for the Roughnecks, who led 19-0 at the quarter and 32-0 at halftime.
Wellington 15, Bovina 3
Impact: The Mustangs dropped their third game in a row.
Records: Bovina 1-4, Wellington n/a.
On the board: Bovina’s only points came on a second-quarter field goal by James Lara, pulling the Mustangs to 7-3 at halftime.
