Family fun night set
Parents and students are invited to visit teachers in their classrooms from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdayto try some interesting learning activities.

Conferences planned


Students completed the first quarter of their school year Friday. Parents may confer with teachers from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 27 to discuss their children’s grades.
 
Choir to perform


 Choir director Franklin Smith invites families and the community to the first concert of the season at 7 p.m. Monday at the high school Performing Arts Center.
 
Pictures rescheduled


Lifetouch Studios informed yearbook sponsor Jon Birdsong that they moved the planned picture shoot back one week. The photographers will be at the junior high Thursday for group pictures.
 
Blackwater Draw trip


Tuesday all seventh grade students will travel to the Blackwater Draw Museum and the dig site for firsthand information about this part of New Mexico history. Archeologists found more wooly mammoth remains at the Sanders gravel pit than any other site in North America. Evidence of the Clovis Man indicates that humans in this area about 12,000 years ago.
 
MESA students to meet


The junior high Math, Engineering and Science Achievement students meet from 3:15-4:45 p.m. Thursday with sponsor Shareen King. The MESA goal is to encourage New Mexico students to be involved in math, engineering and science education and to consider careers in those areas. MESA students must attend meetings and tutoring sessions while maintaining at least a “C” in each class. They compete with students from across New Mexico during the year.
 
Library bond bookmarks distributed


Students have the opportunity to take bookmarks explaining the benefits Portales schools will receive if Government Obligation Bond B passes. They share the information with registered voters, and get that person to sign the bookmark. Students then return the bookmarks with their signatures to be eligible to win an MP3 player. The drawing will be on Election Day, Nov. 4.
 
Band to march


Portales Junior High band students are practicing to perform in the Eastern New Mexico University homecoming parade Saturday.
