Donna Jean Wood Hamilton-Martin Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Community United Methodist Church, Ruidoso. Donna Jean Wood Hamilton-Martin died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, in Las Cruces. She was born Oct. 21, 1955, in Portales to Morris and Doris Wood. She graduated from Portales High School and received her Master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in elementary education. She taught school for two years in Globe, Ariz., two years in Lovington and Portales and 20 years at White Mountain Elementary in Ruidoso. Family members said she loved teaching her children and her yard brought her many hours of enjoyment. She married Charles Hamilton in 1982. Following a divorce, she married Scott Martin in 2005. She is survived by her husband; parents; a sister, Danna Thompson of Ruidoso; a nephew, Tyrus Hull of Albuquerque; two nieces, Amber Lynn Thompson and Tiffiny Ann Thompson both of Ruidoso. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. today at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. The family has requested memorials be made to the Humane Society of Lincoln County or the Disabled Veterans Association. Arrangements are by LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso. Carl Dan Wood Services: 10 a.m. today at Floyd Cemetery Carl Dan Wood, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at his daughter’s home in Ropesville, Texas. He was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Shilo, Texas, to Moriah Belle and Dan Wood. His family moved to Klondike, Texas, when he was 4 years old and to Lubbock in 1928. They came to the Floyd community in 1935 when he was a junior in high school. Following high school, he went to California to “get rich in the gold mines,” family members said. He married Lucille Miller on Oct. 19, 1937, in Floyd. They moved to Levelland, Texas, where he worked at the fuel refinery. They returned to Floyd about 1946 to raise dairy and beef cattle and farmed at Tinsley Crossing. In about 1990, he moved to Chalk Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille, who died in 1968; three brothers, George Wood, Bryce Wood and Cullen Wood; two sisters, Eleanor Thorpe (Maudie) and Mary Will Wood, who died as a small child; and a son, Eddie Carl Wood (Tinker). Survivors include a son, Jerry Wood of Portales; a daughter, Sharon Peterson (and companion, Roy Pinkert) of Ropesville, Texas; six grandchildren, Kim Brady (Matt), Monty Lancaster (Terri), Kyla Gray (Clovis) and Lance Wood, all of Portales, Britt Lancaster (Theresa), of Fargo, Okla., and Connie Peterson (and fiancé, Dean Schumacher) of Zealand, N.D.; 12 great-grandchildren, Rustin Lancaster, Clay and Jake Brady, Tristan and Bree Lancaster, Heather Bartley, Kelsi and Trice Gray, Trent Wood and Tyler Wood, all of Portales, and Ty Peterson and Tanner Hayes of Fargo, Okla.; two brothers, Morris (Doris) Wood and Earl (Red) Wood both of Portales; a daughter-in-law, Elinda Wood of Floyd; a former daughter-in-law, Lynette Wood of Portales; two sisters-in-law, Bettye Miller and Callie Langston both of Portales; and numerous nieces and nephews. Scott P. Reeves will officiate Lunch will be served following the service at the Floyd Community Building. Pallbearers will be Matt Brady, Monty Lancaster, Lance Wood, Britt Lancaster, Clovis Gray and Dean Schumacher. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
