Lujan talks alternative energy

Comments 0

CLOVIS — Investing in alternative energy will not only reduce the country’s need for foreign oil, but will also provide an alternative revenue stream for farmers, according to Ben Lujan, the Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District.

Lujan spoke to more than two dozen eastern New Mexico farmers and ranchers Thursday during the Tri-County Rocky Mountain Farmers Union’s annual meeting.

The union, which covers Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, has more than 50 members in Quay, Roosevelt and Curry County, according to Gregg Gossett, union president for the Curry and Roosevelt county region.

Lujan told members he would work on bringing transmission lines to the area.

“So much work that has to be done (on a federal level),“ he said.

Also running for the position is Republican candidate Dan East and Independent candidate Carol Miller.

The seat is being vacated by Democrat Tom Udall, who is battling Republican Steve Pearce for the Senate seat being vacated by Pete Domenici, R-N.M.

The general election is Nov. 4.
