Regents vote in support of bond

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents on Friday voted in favor of a resolution supporting Government Obligation Bond D.

The bond will be on the Nov. 4 election ballot. It would provide $12 million for ENMU, including:

• $9 million for the technology building

• $2 million for infrastructure

• $1 million for the music building.

Estimated cost to property owners, according to a flyer, would be about $9.77 a year on a home assessed at $100,000.

“I want this thing to pass because it’s for our students,” said Alva Carter, president of the board of regents.

He encouraged administrators to let faculty members know how important the bond is, as well.

ENMU President Steven Gamble introduced the resolution.

“We want to let the community know we support this,” he said.

He also encouraged support of Bond C, which provides $4 million for the Allied Health Building at Clovis Community College and an estimated $1.5 million for state Department of Health facilities in Roosevelt County.

In other action, regents approved:

• Amendments to the five-year capital projects plans for the main campus and the Roswell and Ruidoso branches

• Summer 2008 graduation lists for the main campus and the Roswell branch.

Regents also met in executive session to discuss three personnel matters. No vote was taken on the matters.
