Church holding garage sale

The Floyd Baptist Church will hold a very large garage sale Friday and Saturday to benefit the Lance Fletcher family. Lance is an 8-year-old Dora student who is being treated for osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, at St. Jude Children’s Research Center in Memphis, Tenn.

The church asks any individuals, organizations or churches to join in this effort. Donations will be accepted or tables can be set up. All proceeds will go to the Lance Fletcher Fund.

AARP to meet Wednesday

The Roosevelt County chapter of AARP will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the board room of the Community Services Center. Don Elder, professor of history at Eastern New Mexico University, will speak about the U.S. Constitution. The meeting is open to the public.

Retirees meeting at hospital

The Roosevelt County Association of Education Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 24 in the cafeteria conference room at Roosevelt General Hospital. Several members will be attending the state convention for retirees this week and will report at the Oct. 24 meeting. Delman Shirley will speak about legislative decisions.

Columnist speaking on Monday

Nationally syndicated columnist Tibor Machan will be in Clovis and Portales on Monday to promote  the concept of limited government. Machan will speak at 11 a.m. at the Portales Public Library and at 6 p.m. at the Clovis-Carver Library. See our editorial on Page 4A in today's paper.
