Drug task force makes significant cocaine bust

The Region V Drug Task Force has intercepted what investigators call a significant amount of cocaine being transported to Clovis Monday.

Jorge Sanchez, 31, and Felipe De Jesus Gandara, 31, are being held without bond on an immigration hold, charged with trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to traffic cocaine, according to Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

The two Mexican Nationals were intercepted Monday in Texico when they stopped at a convenience store on their way to Clovis, Waller said.

Task force agents seized five ounces of cocaine in individual baggies.

Agents had received a tip the pair would be transporting a sizable amount of cocaine to Clovis, Waller said.

When contacted, agents noticed Sanchez had, “an abnormal bulge under (his) shirt,” Waller said, and Sanchez admitted he was concealing cocaine.

A search warrant was obtained, Waller said, and the baggies containing cocaine were recovered from Sanchez.

Waller said the drugs have an approximate street value of $14,000.
