Press release: People arrested during weekend

The Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office teaming up with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish worked several operations over the weekend in Roosevelt County that ended with multiple arrests and criminal citations. On Saturday, both agencies conducted a "deer decoy operation" at unspecified locations in Roosevelt County. The operation targeted people who were unlicensed or shooting from motor vehicles and roadways. During that operation, eight people were detained for shooting at the decoy from the roadway and motor vehicles and four were criminally cited for actual misdemeanor violations. Ramon Sena, 47, was arrested when he was found in possession of a stolen firearm from a burlary in Clovis, a fourth-degree felony. Game and Fish officers also seized two mule deer bucks that were killed illegally on private land.

Later that evening deputies and officers conducted night operations targeting spotlighters in eastern New Mexico by air and ground with one violation in Lea County enforced. During this course of the operation, a Game and Fish pilot and his aircraft along with a Roosevelt County deputy as a spotter were utilized while deputies and officers on the ground tracked violators.

On Sunday, both agencies conducted a road block in Dora, again checking for Game and Fish violations. During the roadblock, numerous hunters were checked along with their animals with only one violation found. Deputies with the Sheriff's Office did, however, arrest two individuals, one for DWI and the other for violating his conditions of release from jail by being in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Two other indiviuals were given criminal citations during the roadblock for possession of marijuana and negligent use of a firearm. One firearm was seized as a result.
