Two Portales women face felony drug charges after police say one of them tried running down an officer during a drug “Buy and Bust” operation.

Both women were arrested Wednesday near 16th Lane and Avenue E. by officers from the Portales Police Department and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department, said Portales Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry.

Jessica Earwood, 33, of Portales was taken into custody for battery on a police officer after her car bumper rolled into a police officer when he attempted to stop them, said Berry.

Kim Earwood, 37, of Roosevelt County, was arrested for attempting to sell a controlled substance. She was in Roosevelt Count jail in lieu of $6,500 bond.

Berry said the drug seized was Trazodone, a prescription pain killer.

Berry said a narcotics officer wearing clothing clearly marked “Police” stepped in front of Jessica Earwood’s vehicle, made eye contact and ordered her to stop.

“She continued to roll forward into to him making contact with him before she stopped the vehicle,” Berry said.

Jessica Earwood was jailed in lieu of $5,000 cash bond.
