A fund has been established at the Portales National Bank to benefit Dora School student Lance Fletcher, according to bank officials.
Fletcher is receiving cancer treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Cash or check donations can be made at either branch of the Portales National Bank: 109 East Second St. or 520 West 18th St.
Checks should be made payable to the Lance Fletcher Fund.
MainStreet receives accreditation
The Portales Mainstreet Program received accreditation for meeting National Trust MainStreet standards. The Portales program is one of nearly 700 MainStreet revitalization projects to be recognized as a 2008 National MainStreet Program.
The National Trust Main Street Center bases the accreditation on the following criteria: developing a mission, fostering strong public-private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking economic progress, and preserving historic buildings.

Cannon to hold First Friday
Cannon Air Force Base will host its monthly First Friday event from 5-8 p.m. today at The Landing on base, according to a CAFB press release.
First Friday is an informal family event for individuals both on- and off-base to mingle and dine together. Military officials as well as community leaders are available to answer questions posed by the attendees.
