ENMU briefs — Sept. 1

ENMU choirs CD on sale

Eastern New Mexico University choirs are selling a CD of live recordings from the past five years as a fundraiser for a spring trip to New York City. The cost is $20.

The University Singers, Chamber Singers, 2006 Alumni Choir, European Tour Choir and several solos are featured, said Director of Choral Activities Jason Paulk. Percussion, harp, wind instruments and student solos accompanied the choir.

Raising money for Alzheimer’s

ENMU graduate Celena Cordova and her cousin Rachel Apodaca are participating in the 2010 Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk on Sept. 18 in Santa Fe. Her team “Apodaca Walkers” is accepting donations online to help raise money for Alzheimer’s Disease research, education and awareness.

Cancer awareness event

The Associated Students’ Activities Board is promoting “Hats on Day” to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer.

ASAB is set to give away yellow ribbons and Hats on Day stickers for donations in the Campus Union Building lobby 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. On Friday, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear their hats in support of children who have lost their hair from their fight against cancer.

 

Employee and alumni awards

John Luhman, associate professor of management, and Michael Snipes, assistant professor of economics, have a manuscript accepted for publication in the 2011 volume of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs Annual Edition.

The published article will be titled “Rating the Performance of Teaching at a Small State Business College.”

• Two Eastern New Mexico University anthropology students recently received scholarship awards from the Archaeological Society of New Mexico.

Graduate student Harlan McCaffery received $1,000 to defray costs associated with his thesis “Turkey Talk: Stable Isotope Analysis of Fauna from Ancestral Puebloan Sites in the Middle San Juan.” Matthew Griffin received $1,000 to be spent on expenses for his documentary film project on the history of excavations at Blackwater Draw.

Only five ASNM awards were given for the 2010-2011 academic year.
