Construction on Prince Street begins

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Construction began on Prince Street Tuesday, and City Manager Joe Thomas said his office hasn’t received any complaints about the early work.

The project, handled by K. Barnett and Sons of Clovis, is to re-pave roads on Prince Street from 21st Street to Llano Estacado to install drainage and add sidewalks compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Clovis Public Works Director Clint Bunch said the work is in the concrete phase. Followup phases include a future drainage system and recycling the base course of the present asphalt.

Bunch said there is some inconvenience to drivers, particularly in access to businesses along Prince.

“It’s difficult (getting) into some businesses, but most have two entrances,” Bunch said. “The goal is to stagger the work to keep at least one entrance open.”

The work is estimated to take 120 working days — about five or six months — with the intent to keep at least a southbound lane open at all times.
