Areas receive up to .75 inches

Rain showers sprinkled over Roosevelt County on Wednesday, bringing much-needed rain for area farmers as well as for people with allergies.

The KENW-TV Broadcast Center at Eastern New Mexico University recorded a little over half an inch of rain by mid-afternoon Wednesday, according to Operations Manager Shannon Hearn. With the month only half over, this brings the rainfall total for May up to 1.12 so far. The rainfall total for the year so far is about at 1.6 inches.

“We really need the moisture, especially for those of us with allergies,” Hearn said. “Right now, not having your sinuses clogged is a Godsend. If we have a couple more days of this, I will be happy and my sinuses will be happy.”

At Cannon Air Force Base, .74 inches, was recorded from morning until early evening on Wednesday. With almost .74 inches of rain recorded on May 7, that brings the total for the month up to 1-1/2 inches of rain so far, according to Sgt. Anthony Wilson of CAFB. Wilson said CAFB generally averages about 1.8 inches of rain in May so a few more sprinkles will bring it up to that average.

The weather for today and Friday calls for partly cloudy skies with slight chances of rain showers.
