Weight loss tough resolution to keep

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

With the new year approaching one thing is certain — resolutions will be made, and broken.

Among the more popular goals: Quit smoking, manage debt and maybe even get a better job. But the big one seems to be losing weight.

“People try to get back in shape and lose some weight,” said OC Cleare, owner of Bodies in Motion in Clovis.

Cleare says every year at this time, business goes up. People work out a lot right away. But they begin to fade as the year moves on.

“Of the all the people who join after the new year, about two percent actually stay,” Cleare said.

Bodies in Motion and Gym X in Clovis each offer personal trainers. Trainers can help people stay on track and get into the shape they want.

“It is hard for people who just come to the gym alone,” Cleare said. “It really is up to the individual.”

Eating healthier goes hand-and-hand with working out. Dieting can present a struggle but there are resources to help stick with the plan.

Home Economist Connie Moyers teaches classes for the Roosevelt County Extension office to help people stick with a better diet and become more healthy. She specializes in helping families with healthy meal options.

“Usually around the new year we get more people thinking about those types of things,” Moyers said.

Moyers is teaching a diabetic cooking class in the spring and a class on eating foods to make eyes healthier.

“Spinach and good vegetables are the main ones,” Moyers said. “Anything will vitamin K in it.”

Moyers is also teaching a class at the upcoming New Mexico Ag Expo in Portales in February on making quick and easy, but healthy dinners.

“That is open to everybody so people can come check it out,” Moyers said.
