Expect strange weather mix

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Expect a real mix of weather Tuesday.

Most of eastern New Mexico awoke to frost, then sunshine and then snow.

The National Weather Service says through late morning a cold front will continue to cross the south central mountains and southeast plains with a quick burst of wind... heavy snow and even a few thunderstorms.

As the front crosses winds will shift out of the southwest and strengthen with sustained speeds reaching 20 to 35 m.p.h. and gusts from 45 to 50 m.p.h.

The strongest winds will favor the south central mountains.

Up to 1 inch of snow may accumulate in less than an hour across northern Chaves and Roosevelt counties.

The snow will begin to diminish about 1 to 1.5 hours after it starts and the winds will briefly decrease.

However, very strong winds will return this afternoon.

The front has already crossed De Baca, Curry and Quay counties where snow showers will continue to diminish through noon.
