Obama representative to visit Clovis, Portales


U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, is visiting eastern New Mexico today on behalf of the presidential campaign of Barack Obama.
He will be at the Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce from 12:15-1:30 p.m., visit Cannon Air Force Base from 2-3 p.m., and meet with community leaders from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Juanito’s restaurant in Clovis.
He will also visit La Casa de Buena Salud in Portales from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Benefit concert planned


Several local musicians from Eastern New Mexico University and the community are performing in concert from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the Do Drop Inn to benefit Lance Fletcher, an 8-year-old Dora boy who is undergoing treatment for a form of bone cancer.
The musicians include Andy Mason and Don Thomas, Global Cooling, William Nolan, Adrienne, Sharon Dixon and Thousand Year Reign.
Proceeds from the $3 cover charge will go to benefit Fletcher.



Christian singer to perform


Christian singer Antonio Delgado will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at New Testament Baptist Church, 901 E. Second St.
Delgado’s performance includes comical life stories. He has performed with some of Christian music’s top artists, including the Greenes, the Crabb Family, Michael English and Natalie Grant.
A love offering will be accepted.

Final presentation of racial series


A three-part series of events about coexistence among the races is being sponsored by International Student Affairs during October. Kwasi Anokye from Ghana, graduate student in communications, is coordinating the series.
The third topic in the series is set for 6 p.m. Thursday in the Sandia Room of the CUB.
Doug Morris, professor of education, will discuss the implications of social status impact on race and vice-versa. Insights about long-term and short-term solutions will be shared with and by the audience.
The event is free and open to the public.
