Social Work Program accredited


The Social Work Program at Eastern New Mexico University has announced its accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education through 2012.
Eastern offers social work courses at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, Artesia Workforce Center, ENMU-Portales, ENMU-Roswell, New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, Carlsbad, Clovis Community College, Cannon Air Force Base, and ENMU-Ruidoso. These courses are delivered using a combination of in-class instructional television and the Internet, in conjunction with twice per semester face-to-face, student-faculty gatherings. Coursework is combined with practical field internships.
ENMU’s innovative Bachelor of Science in Social Work Program courses are offered evenings and on Saturday for students with work or child care responsibilities during weekdays.

Pops dinner concert planned


The University Friends of Music invites everyone to the 41st annual POPS Dinner Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Campus Union Ballroom. Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance.
The evening will feature a lively mix of musical selections, including old favorites “Fly Me to The Moon” and “Rock Around the Clock” performed by the University’s Swanee Singers and works by Frank Tickell, Percy Granger and others by the Wind Symphony. Everyone will love the “Name That Tune” competition of rock and roll favorites.
Ticket reservations may be made by sending check or money order to POPS Concert, PO Box 314, Clovis, NM 88101. Advance ticket sales only.
Reservations and payment must be received by Nov. 11.

Speaker to discuss desert bighorn sheep


The Fish and Wildlife Club at ENMU is sponsoring a presentation on desert bighorn sheep at 7 p.m. Wednesday in room 210 of the science building. Mara Weisenberger, desert bighorn sheep biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the San Andres National Wildlife Refuge, will be the speaker. The meeting is free and open to the public.



Student wins research competition


Justin Cotten’s paper, “What Standards of Social Responsibility Should an American Company Follow when Doing Business in a Developing Nation?” was selected as the winning paper in the second annual College of Business Fall Business Research Competition.
The College of Business’ research competition was open to all ENMU students. Paper topics had to relate to business in some manner.
Cotten will receive an expense-paid trip to Chicago in March 2009 to present his paper at the MBAA International Conference.
MBAA International is an association of 13 business discipline-related organizations. Each year approximately 700-800 professors and business professional attend the conference representing most states and some foreign countries. Attendees come from North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Cotten is a junior transfer student from Desoto, Texas. After two years as a pitcher at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas, he transferred to ENMU to pitch for the Greyhounds.



Spaghetti dinner planned


Zeta Tau Alpha will hold its annual spaghetti dinner from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1101 W. 18th St. Proceeds will benefit breast cancer awareness and education
Tickets are $7 dollars each and carry-outs are available. Tickets will be available at the door or from any member of Zeta Tau Alpha.



Preview day for seniors planned


The Green and Silver View, ENMU’s preview day for high school seniors will be on Saturday. This day will be informational and fun for prospective students and their parents to visit campus, learn about academic programs and student services. ENMU will have a special preview day in the spring for juniors.
