The Portales City League will be holding tryouts for football Saturday at City Park.

The tryouts will begin at 9 a.m. for the junior league (third and fourth grade) and 1 p.m. for the senior league fifth and sixth grade), said league organizer Ron Jackson.

“This is a very important to the children of Portales and Roosevelt County,” said Jackson. “The coaches teach these children the fundamentals of the game and great sportsmanship.”

There are five teams in the junior league and four teams in the senior league.

“Elida has a team that they will be registering in the junior league,” Jackson said. “This program is a great feeder program for the junior high and eventually the high school football teams.”

The cost to join is $60, children can be registered for the league at the Portales Recreation Center from noon to 6 p.m. through Friday.

For additional information contact Ron Jackson at 359-1848 and 356-6601 or Johnny Ledbetter at 356-8598.
