Good morning, and welcome to Tuesday’s Freedom New Mexico morning briefing.

Portales past: Nov. 19, 1942

Nov. 19, 1942: The Portales Daily News: Plans for the national observance of Pearl Harbor Day on Dec. 7 were made. Plans were being made by the Roosevelt County Defense Council to have a simulated air raid and blackout that night. Planes from the Roswell Air Base were secured for the “bombing.”

Nov. 6, 1942: The Portales Daily News: Plans were going forward for a blackout and simulated air raid Nov. 25, closing date for the November Drive, which the American Legion sponsored.
