Hole-in-one hit at Portales Country Club

Freedom New Mexico Meno Banda hit his first hole in one Sunday at Portales Country Club. Banda hit the ace on the 181-yard fifth hole, using a Ping driver and a Taylor golf ball. Witnesses were Larry Jewell, Jeff Hardt, Rick Short and Mike Stratton.

April 2, 1955: The Portales Kiwanis Club was kicking off sales for its second “birthday” calendar, which featured birthdays and anniversaries for area residents. The first calendar, in 1954, included 1,000 listings. The goal for 1955 was 2,500 listings.
