The Portales News Tribune reported that the Roosevelt County Commission approved a measure put forth by Sheriff Stanley Bilberry to use air travel to transport Roosevelt County prisoners if the extraditions were over 600 miles. Under the current policy, the prisoners had to be driven, no matter what the distance.
