May 24 was set as Poppy Day in Portales and throughout the U.S. The public was asked to wear a memorial poppy in honor of those who died in the two world wars. The Auxiliary and Campfire groups of Portales distributed the handmade, crepe paper flowers created by veterans of the wars.
