Portales past: June 12, 1945

June 12, 1945: Portales mourned the death of former Eastern New Mexico College student Sgt. Melvin E. Jones. Military officials reported three years earlier that Jones was missing in action while serving with the National Guard on the Philippine Islands. Family members received word this week that Jones had died on July 28, 1942.
