C.R. Nelson received the first Superior Accomplishment Award ever presented to a local employee from Postmaster Bill Foster, according to the Portales News-Tribune. A $100 cash bonus goes with the award. Nelson has been a postal employee for 28 years.

Augustine “Gus” Garcia, of Portales, was honored at a ceremony at Fort Bliss for “gallantry in action in Vietnam,” after he returned wounded from a tour of duty.
