The Portales City Council agreed to create a position of city engineer with the purpose of surveying and mending the city’s water supply needs. The council was not yet clear if the job would be permanent.

The Portales News-Tribune reported that U.S. Geological Survey mapmakers were working extensively to survey and accurately map Roosevelt County. By this time, the northern portion of the county was almost complete, but the Dora-Milnesand area still needed more surveying and research.
